Illinois Basketball has had some rumors flying around recently. After 2024 commit, Jase Butler suddenly announced his plans to be released from his NLI, more rumors started to circulate. Was the lead recruiter on Butler, Chester Frazier, headed elsewhere? Will Brad Underwood listen to the Kentucky job? If Baylor or Kansas State opens up, will Brad Underwood bolt for those jobs? On top of the new questions, there were questions regarding Sencire Harris. Above all, it is no secret that Illinois is looking to find a veteran backcourt piece in the transfer portal.
After a surprising decision to redshirt, many believed that Sencire Harris may no longer be in the long-term goals for Illinois Basketball. However, on Monday afternoon, Harris squashed the rumors on social media.

One thing about Sencire Harris and Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn is that they will always play hard and with a lot of emotion. Gibbs-Lawhorn showed that in the first round of the NCAA tournament against Morehead State. Harris will need to show that he can space the floor adequately, however, he can easily give what Justin Harmon provided for Illinois. Catch-and-shoots, quick drives, and stout defense are something that Sencire Harris could provide for the 2024 season.
As much as Illinois Basketball needs talent, it needs continuity to carry over the culture and provide leadership. In the future, Sencire Harris, Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn, and Ty Rodgers will all provide that.
